Getting Race Ready at Bundaberg Kart Club: Step-by-Step Guide
Welcome to Bundaberg Kart Club (BKC)! Whether you're brand new to karting or transitioning into competition, this guide walks you through each step — from joining the club and applying for a licence to entering your first race.
Step 1: Join Bundaberg Kart Club
Before you can hit the track, you must be a financial member of an affiliated kart club, such as BKC.
How to Join:
Visit karting.net.au
Click "KOMP" in the top right or go directly to portal.karting.net.au/octozy/login
Log in or create an account.
Go to the applications tab & create a new application and select Club Memberships.
Now Select the State and Bundaberg Kart Club.
Now follow the prompts to complete your membership application and payment.
Step 2A: Cadet & Junior Drivers – Apply for a Practice Licence (E Licence)
If you're a Cadet (6–12) or Junior (12–15) driver, your first step after joining the club is to apply for a Practice (E) Licence.
How to Apply:
In your KOMP account, select Applications and Create a New Application, click "Annual Driver's Recreational Licence".
Now follow the prompts.
Upload any required documents (e.g., birth certificate).
Complete the application and pay the fee.
This licence allows you to participate in non-competitive practice and social karting, under supervision of a Karting Activity Controller (KAC).
Important: Cadet and Junior drivers must complete 8 Social Karting Activities under the supervision of a KAC before they can upgrade to a D Provisional Competition Licence. These activities must be recorded and signed off by a club official.
Step 2B: Senior Drivers – Apply Directly for a D Provisional Competition Licence
If you're 15 years or older, you can skip the E Licence and apply straight for a D Provisional Competition Licence.
How to Apply:
Log in to KOMP.
Go to Applications and Create a New Application, click "Annual Driver's Competition Licence".
Now follow the prompts.
Upload any required documents (e.g., medical declaration, proof of age).
Submit and pay the licence fee.
Step 3: Complete an Observed Driving Session (ODS)
All new Competition Licence holders must complete an Observed Driving Session (ODS) before they can enter their first race. This ensures you're familiar with race procedures and safe on track.
To book your ODS:
Email: secretary@bundykartclub.com.au
Step 4: Enter Your First Race
How to Enter:
Log in to KOMP.
Go to "Event Calendar".
Select your event (e.g., BKC Club Day).
Choose your class, kart number, and transponder.
Request an endorsement during entry.
Accept the Supplementary Regulations and pay.
Step 5: Complete 4 Endorsed Race Meetings
New Competition Licence holders must complete 4 endorsed race meetings before they can upgrade to a full licence.
Request an endorsement each time you enter.
Officials will observe and approve your participation.
Track your progress in your KOMP profile.
You must display a “P Plate” on your kart until the upgrade is approved.
Step 6: Upgrade to Full Competition Licence
Once you’ve completed your 4 endorsements:
Log in to KOMP.
Go to ‘Licences’ > ‘Upgrade Licence’.
Submit the request to upgrade from D Provisional.
Remember: You must continue to display your “P Plate” until your upgrade is approved.
